"I like to give the best possible cosmetic outcome to my patients, but I'm also up for a challenge when it comes to general dermatology."

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Ashley Matthews practices general medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University where she double majored in biology and music with a minor in German and conducted notable research in stem cell biology. She received her doctoral degree from Vanderbilt School of Medicine where she was awarded a Max Kade fellowship to study in the dermatology unit of the public hospital in Vienna, Austria. She also spent time working in a hospital in Amman, Jordan and volunteered her time in the Shade Tree Clinic, a free clinic in Nashville.  She completed her year of internal medicine training at Wellstar Kennestone in Marietta, GA, and undertook her three years of residency training at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Department of Dermatology where she was appointed chief resident by the faculty for her leadership and excellence in delivering care.

The focus of Dr. Matthews’ practice is medical and surgical dermatology. This includes the management of disorders of the skin as well as the prevention, detection, and appropriate treatment of skin cancers and precancers. She excels in ensuring optimal outcomes in more complex cases by working closely with other specialists and making it a priority to follow up with her patients at every stage of their treatment.

Dr. Matthews is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an active member of the Tennessee Dermatological Society. She has published notable research in her field in the areas of Mohs Surgery for skin cancer, nerve repair, plastic surgery outcomes, and stem cell research. She has served as a resident lecturer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and has donated her personal time toward conducting skin cancer screenings in the community. She enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses and hiking with her dogs. Dr. Matthews is looking forward to deepening her ties in the Nashville community and serving patients of all ages, skin types, and skin conditions for many years to come.
