What is it?

A Standard Excision refers to the removal of a skin cancer or other growth along with a margin of the healthy skin tissue around it to ensure a clear border. For this procedure, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. After the lesion and margin of normal skin is removed, the incision is closed with stitches. If the incision is large, sometimes a skin graft or flap is required. The appropriate treatment options will be discussed with you at the visit with your dermatology provider.
