Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. William McLeish, who grew up in the Chicago area, joins Spectrum Dermatology after an illustrious 30 career. Dr. McLeish attended the University of Illinois where he studied engineering and graduated from Rush University Medical School at the top of his class with AOA honors. He then completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St Lukes Hospital. Subsequently, Dr. McLeish completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the nations most prestigious University of Miami/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
Dr. McLeish then was then accepted for a highly coveted fellowship in Oculofacial Plastic surgery which he completed at the University of Utah. He was the recipient of the Heed Fellowship Award for training in academic medicine.
Dr. McLeish practiced both full and part-time at the Mayo Clinic for over 20 years, serving in both the departments of Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery, and rising to the level of department chairman. As well, he was previously, Ophthalmology section head of Scottsdale Healthcare. He has trained over 100 residents and fellows.
Dr. McLeish has authored numerous scientific publications and given many presentations at national meetings. He has provided hundreds of hours of volunteer service, helping to train overseas physicians and members of the United States military who provide medical care to underserved areas around the world.
His outside interests are in all things outdoors and all things “mechanical. As well his true passions lies in the preservation of wild lands, support for scientific research, and working with his hands.
