Chad A. Eckes
Chief Executive Officer
Chad Eckes was most recently the Executive Vice President of Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, a leading Academic Medical Center. Chad was the executive leader of the organization’s financial turnaround from March 2014 to June 2017. During that period, Chad led the turnaround of the organization’s Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Technology, Facilities and Human Resources departments. At the same time, the organization experienced in excess of 25% revenue growth.
Previously, Chad was the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Information Officer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), the premier center for cancer treatment. During 2005 to 2014, Chad was part of the leadership team which grew CTCA by 30x creating a national footprint.
As the CEO of Pinnacle Dermatology, Chad focuses on a handful of key approaches: be crystal clear about the company’s vision, mission, and values; lay out clear strategies; build employee engagement; focus on customer service; create a transparent environment where employees feel free and comfortable to raise any and all issues in the workplace; focus on results; and hold people accountable to those results.
Chad earned his M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and holds a master’s certificate in project management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Jose Rios, MD
President & Co-Founder
Dr. Rios is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has decades of plastic surgery experience and rigorous training. His engaging personality combined with technical precision and uncompromising standards have earned him a reputation as one of the premier plastic surgeons in the area.
Dr. Rios attended Princeton University and earned his undergraduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He later went to New York University School of Medicine to earn his medical degree, performed his residency and fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern.
Alongside Dr. Lapinski we created Pinnacle Dermatology because we love what we do. It makes going "above and beyond" - for everyone in our practice - come naturally. Over the years, we have aimed to provide the highest level of care delivered with a familiar, down-to-earth approach. We recognize that our patients, our providers, and our support team are the reason we exist, the reason we set out to create this experience, and the reason we are always striving to make it better.
Paula Lapinski, MD
Chief Medical Officer & Co-Founder
Dr. Paula Lapinski is a board-certified dermatologist with an extensive medical background and an unparalleled warmth, who has built a reputation in the community for exceptional treatment of a wide range of cosmetic and medical dermatologic issues.
Dr. Lapinski earned her degree in pre-professional studies at The University of Notre Dame, graduating with Honors as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to attend Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed her internship at Evanston-Northwestern Hospital. She completed her residency in Dermatology at The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, one of the premier programs in the country.
Dr. Lapinski's interest in patients with skin cancer led her to complete an additional year of training at The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in the area of Mohs micrographic surgery, a specialized method of skin cancer excision and pathologic examination.
As the Co-Founder of Pinnacle Dermatology, Dr. Lapinski understands the level of care they provide is rarely matched because of the fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgery specialist team and an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon at the same practice. The combined expertise and experience enables them to create comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
Shauna Birdsall, ND, FABNO, CHC
SVP Clinical Operations, Chief Compliance Officer
Dr. Birdsall earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis. She later earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Birdsall then completed a two-year residency training program in naturopathic medicine and oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She continued at CTCA as a Naturopathic Physician at Midwestern Regional Medical Center.
In 2008, Dr. Birdsall transferred to Western Regional Medical Center in greater Phoenix as the Medical Director of Integrative Oncology and Naturopathic Medicine and later became the Vice Chief of Staff where she was responsible for coordinating clinical efficiency and workflow for the Physician, NP, and PA staff and outpatient clinics. In addition, she was responsible for ensuring seamless care integration across multiple services lines, including medical, radiation and surgical oncology, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology, pulmonology and urology. Dr. Birdsall was integral for transforming Western Regional Medical Center from a startup hospital/clinic to the leading oncology center in the Southwest United States. She is also a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology.
Chief Marketing Officer
Barbara Goworowski join Pinnacle Dermatology as Chief Marketing Officer in January 2018. She leads a team responsible for all marketing activities designed to optimize the patient experience and drive appointment growth across the Pinnacle practices.
As Senior Vice President of Sale and Marketing at Access Media 3, Barb was responsible for all facets of the organization’s sales, marketing, business planning, optimization and development functions. A skilled marketer with a balance of corporate, field, regional and global experience, Barb brings a strong passion and dedication focused on customer intimacy and aligning organizations to deliver industry leading growth results.
Prior to joining AM3, Barb was responsible for North America Marketing for Zebra Technologies, including regional strategy, marketing strategy, vertical market development, channel marketing and operations, demand generation, events, and product marketing. Preceding her role at Zebra, she held similar roles at Motorola Inc.
Earlier in her career, she held executive positions with Verio and Ameritech Cellular where she was responsible for all marketing activities for the respective organizations. Mrs. Goworowski has an MBA from the Kellstadt Business School at DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in marketing and economics from Marquette University.
Chief Business Development Officer
JoAnn Wagner is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with physicians and external partners to achieve company growth through acquisitions and strategic partnerships. She joined Pinnacle on February 5, 2018.
JoAnn has had a robust career in healthcare including senior roles in corporate development, sales, project management, and marketing. She has worked for both global and small, local companies and enjoys strategizing to achieve sustainable growth and development.
Prior to joining Pinnacle Dermatology, JoAnn was Vice President of Business Development for a boutique healthcare-focused investment bank where she was responsible for sourcing proprietary acquisition opportunities for the firm’s clients, assisting with due diligence, and deal closure.
Wagner has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Cum Laude) from Ripon College, and is located at Pinnacle Dermatology’s corporate headquarters in Lombard, Illinois.
Chief Information Officer
Ralph Wilcox is the Chief Information Officer at Pinnacle Dermatology. He is responsible for all network, application, infrastructure and desktop support for the entire organization. Ralph joined Pinnacle in December 2017.
Prior to Pinnacle, Ralph was the AVP of Infrastructure at ICMC, responsible for implementing enterprise level Unified Communication, email, and high availability systems. The team, after successfully implementing these technologies at ICMC, then architected and implemented similar solutions for other Stephenson Family Entities. Prior to joining ICMC, Ralph was the Site Director for Information Technology at CTCA Midwestern Regional Medical Center (MRMC). Ralph, in addition to his work at MRMC, played a key role in the coordination and management of all IT projects, and the installation of systems for Western Regional Medical Center (WRMC) and Eastern Regional Medical Center (ERMC). And before joining CTCA, Ralph worked as a consultant and project manager for various healthcare organizations, including Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, KS and the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Ralph holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Vice President, Administrative Operations
Matt has 15+ years of experience in the healthcare revenue cycle space ranging from consulting, technology, business development to operations management and leadership where he has spent the majority of his healthcare career.
Immediately prior to joining Pinnacle Dermatology Matt Renn was oversaw Revenue Cycle operations for Edward-Elmhurst Health, a $1.4B community health system in the western suburbs of Chicago. In his 2 years at Edward-Elmhurst Health Matt led a financial turnaround delivering over $20M in bottom-line revenue cycle improvements through process redesign, vendor management, and on-going system integration efforts.
Prior to joining Edward-Elmhurst Health, Matt joined MethodCare, an early stage healthcare revenue cycle technology startup, as part of its leadership team. While at MethodCare Matt focused on new business development as well as built from scratch an account management team focused on customer experience and ensuring bottom line results as a result of leveraging its technology. The business ultimately merged with ZirMed who was backed by Sequoia Capital one of the world’s leading venture capital firms.
Earlier in his career Matt spent 8+ years at Accretive Health, a Revenue Cycle Operations Management Company, where he led Revenue Cycle Operations at multiple clients as well at Accenture, a global management consulting and professional services firm.
Seema Apichai, MD, FCAP
Dermatopathologist and Laboratory Director
Dr. Seema Apichai is a Dermatopathologist and Laboratory Director at Pinnacle Dermatology. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in Undergraduate Degree in Biological Sciences (1999); completed medical school (2005), and completed her residency in Pathology in 2009. Dr. Apichai completed the Fellowship program in Dermatopathology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Dermatology in 2010.
Dr. Apichai is a Fellow, College of American Pathologists, and a Member of the following organizations.

Director of Human Resources
Brad has over 20 years of human resources experience including developing human resource processes and policies, compliance, employee relations, performance management, recruiting, benefits, compensastion, training, and as a strategic business partner.
His career has included international management positions with large and mid-size companies in healthcare, finance, gas/oil, and various service industries.
Prior to joining Pinnacle Dermatology, Brad worked for Petronas where he assumed the human resource responsibliities for the United States, Canada, and Mexico locations of this Malaysian-based, government-owned company. In addition, Brad held a human resource management role for Glory Global Solutions and Cancer Treatements Centers of America (CTCA).
Brad earned his BS from Western Illinois University. He is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Director of Physician Recruitment
Kathleen has spent the past 14 years in healthcare administration through expanding roles within Business Development, Physician Relations, service line expansion and strategic planning functions.
Most recently Kathleen was part of the corporate office for national health system, Cancer Treatment Centers of America where she served as Director of Business Development. In this capacity, she led a team responsible for plan development and management to advance the growth, positioning and facility footprint of the oncology system. During her tenure, Kathleen negotiated hospital land acquisition projects for new markets, led market due diligence and built external relationships with business, clinical and community leaders.
Kathleen holds a BA from Valparaiso University, where she graduated with Honors, and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
Serving as Pinnacle Dermatology’s Director of Physician Recruitment, she works with providers to help them understand the value of Pinnacle’s patient experience model and clinical quality standards. She is passionate about placing the right providers into Pinnacle’s growing clinic network to deliver a superior customer experience.
